Ayurveda, Mountains & Monk Wisdom
From the Mahakumbh to the Himalayas: My Journey Through Ayurveda, Spirit & Silence
Some journeys begin with tickets and timetables, and then some begin with a quiet whisper from the universe. Mine started by the sacred waters of the Mahakumbh, and led me through Goa, Dharamshala, and finally into the presence of a monk who would change my life forever. The clinical training in Goa brought me back into the rhythms of the body, the pulse of Prakriti (nature), and the art of balance.
This is the story of how I found presence and peace, and how the Himalayas claimed a piece of my soul.

The Mahakumbh: A Fire Awakens
My journey began with the once-in-a-lifetime Mahakumbh Mela, an ocean of devotion, fire, chanting, and sacred water. It wasn’t just a pilgrimage. It was a spiritual ignition. As I stood on the banks of the river Ganga, surrounded by millions of pilgrims, sages, and seekers, I could feel ancient threads weaving through my soul.
There was something primal, something cosmic, about being there. It was as though every cell in my body was remembering something, a deeper connection to source. I left the Mahakumbh not just transformed, but reborn into a path I knew I had to follow: the path of Ayurveda and inner healing.
From the Ganga to Goa: Ayurveda as a Living Wisdom
My next step led me to Goa, where I continued my Ayurveda clinical training. Set against the backdrop of the sea, my days were filled with pulse readings, case studies, oil preparations, and deepening into classical texts.
Goa, with its tropical warmth and vibrant energy, was a bridge, a place where the science of Ayurveda met the rhythms of the body and spirit. It taught me to listen: to the body’s wisdom, to subtle imbalances, and to how nature already knows how to heal us if we’re willing to slow down and hear her.

The Calling of the Mountains: Sidhpur, Dharamshala
From the coast, I was drawn to the mountains of Dharamshala, to Sidhpur, where my Ayurveda training continued further in a more intimate and spiritual setting. The practices became more meditative, the mountains whispering ancient secrets as we practiced pulse diagnosis and prepared oils at the panchakarma clinic. The air was thinner, clearer, almost like a veil between worlds had lifted.
Here, silence was part of the syllabus. The mountains whispered, the herbs spoke loudly on our daily herb walks, and each diagnosis felt like a prayer. It was in this quiet cocoon of healing that something truly extraordinary happened.

A Soulful Encounter: Meeting Monk Basu Lama
One morning, in a quiet office setting, I met Monk Basu Lama, a moment that felt written in the stars. We didn’t speak much, but we didn’t need to. His presence alone was like a temple in motion. He offered me silence without awkwardness, space without pressure, and presence without expectation. One morning, as we sat watching the sun rise behind the mountains, he said softly, “You climbed many steps to come here. But the highest one is inside you.” What a powerful message…. These words still echo in me.
Over a simple cup of chai, he shared lessons that bypassed intellect and went straight to the heart. He spoke of spiritual simplicity, of letting go, of trusting nature and the breath. He reminded me that the universe is not something we seek, it’s something we return to.
He said, “The mountains are always listening. We just forget how to speak their language.” And in that one sentence, I felt my entire life align.

What the Himalayas Gave Me
The Himalayas weren’t just a backdrop; they became a part of me. Their vast silence, their unshakable presence, their quiet strength, these are now qualities I carry within. I returned from Dharamshala changed. More rooted. More open. More in rhythm with Ayurveda, spirit, and self.

Coming Home to Myself
This journey across states, across practices, and across inner landscapes was not just about deeper training in Ayurveda. It was about coming home to my own breath, my own truth, and the deep knowing that everything is connected.
And while I will walk many more paths in this life, one thing is certain: The Himalayas, and the wisdom they whispered through Basu Lama, will forever walk with me.
Thank you for reading.
If you’ve ever stood in a place that stirred your soul or met someone who left a mark beyond words, I’d love to hear your story, too.
Let’s keep walking this path, one sacred step at a time.
